Gas Emission Detection – The Perfect Example of Us

Finding new technologies, incorporating them into what we offer customers, and developing them to meet the ongoing needs of the industries we serve is at the core of Falcker. One of the systems we offer – ongoing development – has come on leaps and bounds in the past three years. Let us show you how exciting our tech and approach can be.

One should never keep up with tech for the sake of it. After all, doing something just because everyone else does doesn’t actually mean it’s adding value – you’re just becoming a sheep. But when industries are on the prowl for better ways to solve old problems, you should dive in with both feet. At least that’s what Falcker does.

Forward Progress

A little over three years ago we started exploring technologies that would help us support customers trying to improve their gas emission detection services. Pairing an emission detection camera and mounting it on a drone, we created a system that was able to help our customers spot gas emissions coming from their tanks and other assets. The real drawback of what we put together was that we couldn’t view emissions in real-time, so we had to land the drone, collect the footage and rewatch it. But that gave us some good direction on where to aim next.

We’ve worked with a couple of other companies since then – one developed a drone with a gimbal which allowed us to plug a camera and give a live view of an inspection. But innovation soon becomes outdated in this space – the pace of change in drone and portable camera tech never sleeps… so neither do we!

Falcker now introduces a new high-tech OGI camera system, and have gone from being able to check for gas emissions on ten to fifteen tanks a day, all the way up to forty.

Part of The Bigger Picture

We have brought onboard a lot of new tech to help our customers localize gas emissions at unparalleled speed. And our customers need our help. If you want to get really technical we localize gas emissions according to NTA 8399:2013 for the purpose of the PGS 29 permit.

And that has become really important. The Dutch Government recently changed regulations moving from 25% of terminal assets that needed gas emission inspection per year up to 100% of assets a year. That poses a real challenge for asset owners. With the new technology, Falcker can scan the terminal and pinpoint exactly where gas emissions are coming from. After localizing the emissions they need to be measured by a specialist team who can assess the danger posed, and the implications of any particular gas emission. What the Falcker system does is supercharge these teams in both safety and inefficiency.

We can now check large numbers of tanks, pump sites, and pipelines for gas emissions in a very short space of time which can save our customers a lot of money and help them assess all terminal assets on a yearly basis to comply with the new government regulations. Better still, our customer’s inspection teams view the footage there and then which means they can begin mapping out any inspections they need to follow up with. And, all from the safety of a remote location so they aren’t exposed to any unnecessary risk.
